A Different Kind of Rescue
Sometimes a family is faced with an unexpected veterinary diagnosis and a treatment plan that comes with significant costs. In these moments, difficult decisions can arise—not because of a lack of love or commitment, but because of financial hardship.
The OAR Fund was established to help keep Newfoundland dogs where they belong: at home with the families who love them.
Rather than responding after a dog has been surrendered, the OAR Fund focuses on prevention. Through financial assistance for qualifying veterinary care, the program helps families navigate temporary hardships and access treatment that may otherwise be out of reach.
Over the years, the OAR Fund has helped families remain together during times of unexpected medical and financial challenges. By providing support when it is needed most, the program reflects one of the most important aspects of rescue: preserving the bond between dogs and the people who care for them.
The OAR Fund is supported through designated donations and charitable giving, with all contributions used exclusively for veterinary assistance.
About Otis
& the OAR Fund
The Otis Aid to Rescue (OAR) Fund was established in memory of Otis through the generosity of his humans, Lezli and Bennett, whose love for their Newfoundland inspired a lasting commitment to helping other Newfoundlands in need. The fund provides financial assistance to owners experiencing temporary hardship so their dogs can continue receiving necessary veterinary care.
Each request for support is reviewed individually, with careful evaluation of the dog’s long-term quality of life. In responsible stewardship of donor contributions, Colonial Newfoundland Rescue works directly with the family’s veterinary clinic to ensure funds are used appropriately and effectively. Colonial Newfoundland Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations to the OAR Fund are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
