Surrendering
Choosing to surrender your Newfoundland takes courage and love. By making this decision, you are putting your dog's well-being first and we honor that. We're with you through every step of the process.

We are here to help.
Please share as much as you can about your dog. Their personality, their quirks, their history. No dog is perfect, and that's okay. The more we know, the better we can find them a home where they'll truly thrive. There's no judgment here, only a shared commitment to your giving your Newf the loving second chapter they deserve.

How to get started:
Reach out to us at intake@colonialnewfrescue.org and include the following:
-
Your name and phone number
-
Your Newf's name, age, and location (city and state)
From there, one of our volunteers will be in touch to learn more about your dog and talk through next steps together.

A note on costs: Caring for each Newf, from veterinary care to finding the right home, takes real resources. While there is no formal surrender fee, we gratefully welcome any donation to CNR that you're able to make. Every contribution goes directly toward giving dogs like yours the care they deserve.

What Happens Next?
-
Your Newf will be placed with one of our experienced volunteer foster families, where they'll receive love and care while we find their perfect match.
-
To help ease the transition, you're welcome to send along familiar items. A favorite toy, their bed, a blanket. These small comforts can make a real difference.
-
Please also include any remaining food or let us know what they've been eating so we can keep things consistent during the adjustment period.
-
-
We'll feature your Newf on our website and social media to help find them the right home. Great photos go a long way! Send us pictures that show off their personality and their best self. (Please avoid photos that include human faces.)
-
Our volunteers carefully screen every applicant. We match based on the best fit for your dog, not first come, first served. Because finding the right home matters more than finding a fast one.
-
When the process is complete, you can rest easy knowing your dog has been placed with a thoroughly vetted, CNR-approved family who was chosen specifically with your Newf in mind.
