About Me.

Duke is a handsome 6-year-old neutered Newfoundland. He came into rescue when his family no longer had time for him, and he’s ready for a home that will keep him for good.

Duke is shy at first, but once he feels safe he’s calm, affectionate, and happy to snuggle. Chin scratches and belly rubs are his favorites. He gets along well with dogs and with older children (ages 12–17), learns tricks quickly, and remembers them. He’s content to relax at home alone for several hours. He enjoys leashed walks, carries his stuffed animals around, and will sometimes chase a ball. Cheese and wet food toppers are his favorite rewards, though he won’t eat when he’s stressed.

Duke has a few needs his family should know about:

  • Doorways: Many make him nervous. He’s comfortable with one door in his foster home, but others need patience and a pace he sets.

  • Car rides: Getting in and out of vehicles is still hard for him. Gentle, positive training is helping.

  • Slippery floors: Carpet or non-slip runners help him feel secure.

Duke doesn’t need a perfect home. He needs patient people who will celebrate small victories, encourage him to try new things, and show him he’s safe. Trust takes time, and in return he offers loyalty, companionship, and plenty of snuggles.

Could you be his forever family?
