Griz is a handsome, affectionate Newfoundland who is almost 18 months old. He loves being with his people, enjoys walks, and already knows Sit, Come, Stay, and Down. He is scheduled to be neutered in October.

Griz is still a young, big dog and can get excited around other dogs, visitors, and small children. On walks, he may fixate on other dogs and can lunge if they bark at him, although his behavior appears to come from excitement and wanting to interact rather than barking or reacting aggressively. Because of his size and enthusiasm, introductions to other dogs should be managed carefully, and we would be cautious about placing him with smaller dogs.

At home, Griz settles well with his family. He can be unsure of people carrying large objects such as boxes or laundry baskets, but thunderstorms and fireworks don't bother him at all. He enjoys car rides once he's in the vehicle and is gradually deciding whether the lake is something he wants to love.

Griz would do best with a family willing to continue his training and give him structure, patience, and plenty of attention. Young children should be closely supervised around him while he continues learning to manage his excitement.

Griz has made good progress in foster care and has a lot of potential. He's looking for a family ready to help this big young Newf become his best self.
