Penny is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves being with people. She likely spent much of her previous life outdoors, and when she came into rescue, her coat was in such poor condition that it had to be clipped. She is now learning just how good life as part of a family can be.

Penny loves pets, belly rubs, brushing, walks, car rides, and treats. She is food motivated, knows some commands, offers her paw, and will willingly go into her crate when told “kennel.”

She enjoys meeting people and other dogs, although she can get excited and pull toward them on walks. New or especially lively situations can make her a little anxious at first. She did this initially around younger children but became much more comfortable once she had time to get to know them. Calm introductions and a little time to adjust work well for Penny.

Penny isn’t particularly interested in dog toys yet, but she has discovered that wooden furniture and yard stakes make tempting chew toys. Her new family will need to keep working with her on appropriate things to chew.

She is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be spayed after she has fully recovered. Through all of it, Penny has remained a loving, people-oriented girl who seems happiest simply being included.

Penny still has some healing to do, but she is well on her way to the next chapter of her life...  a home of her own.
